Estimats Democrätsen Liveradâs és Liverats:
The following items were deadlocked 3-3 in the first round of voting on policy. I've been asked to start the vote from scratch rather than going with a simple revote.
Therefore, all members please vote PËR, CONTRÂ or AUSTÁNEU on the following::
Item A: Right to Vote Publicly
Item B: Nationalisation

My votes are:
A. CONTRÂ. Public voting is illiberal and anti-republican, in that it opens up the voter to pressure while casting her vote and punishment/reward for what follows. We know that in Talossa, public voting leads to "loyalty parade" voting - people voting as a public display of loyalty to their friends or party, or otherwise in the hope of getting goodies or avoiding punishment afterwards. Let's put an end to this. Compulsory secret ballot.
B. CONTRÂ. Many liberals think of "nationalisation" as "compulsory seizure without compensation". I would be opposed to that in the Talossan context. HOWEVER, one of the real successes of the outgoing Coalition was the Nationalisation of the Talossan Database. By voting for this plank you are spitting on all the hard work we did to take the repository of our personal information out of the private hands of one man - legally and consensually, I might add! - and bring it into the guidance of the democratic authorities.

BTW, unless anyone has any better means of tie-breaking, I'm going to keep this vote open for 1 week, and if we're tied at the end of the week, we'll keep voting for 24 hours; to be repeated if it's still a tie.

A. Per - I don't think there's anything illiberal about giving people a choice as to whether they cast their vote publicly or not; there's certainly nothing illiberal or unrepublican about treating voting as something of profound public importance, especially if you have a choice whether to participate in that.
B. Per - I think a misunderstanding exists regarding the purpose of this policy, which was originally developed in response to governments taking on fun quirky projects instead of allowing these things to develop from private enterprise. The mark of a healthy nation is one in which citizens, not governments, provide the bedrock of activity.

The vote on these has stood at 3-2 for ages. I am allowing 24 hours for last minute votes, just because I'm such a good democrat.
